I Heart Local Music
Arthur Dodge
Arthur Dodge is a singer/songwriter/screenwriter rooted in the Americana genre of rock n’ roll storytelling. A prolific songwriter, he’s released one solo album The Perfect Face, and five other albums with his band as Arthur Dodge & the Horsefeathers.
Over the years his gruff voice, roaming melodies, and complex lyricism have shared the stage with a long list of diverse and noted songsmiths: Lucinda Williams, Nils Lofgren, and Soul Asylum, to name but a few.
He resides in the arts centric Midwest college town of Lawrence, Kan. with his wife (writer and restaurateur, Meg Heriford/Ladybird Diner) and four children. He’s currently at work on his seventh album.
Kelly Hunt
Memphis native, Kelly Hunt, sings with what Rolling Stone Country describes as “the lilting cadence of a folksinger born somewhere far away, sometime long ago.” Deeply rooted in traditions of folk, blues, and old-time music, Hunt reimagines these forms with contemporary vigor, hovering beyond the constraints of genre and exploring the tension between past and present, old world and new.
Self-taught on banjo and guitar, Hunt’s nuanced instrumental style melds finger-picking with pulsing rhythms, creating a dynamic sonic backdrop for her soulful lyrics and storytelling.

Julie Shwarting
Julie Schwarting has been writing songs, playing bass, and singing for the Lawrence string band MAW for over 20 years. Raised in Kansas, Iowa and South Dakota, Julie’s songs are often rooted in the rural American past, yet resonate in the present.
Her work as a teacher of Environmental Science has provided as much insight for songs as her rural upbringing and adult life in and around Lawrence. Songs of social justice rub shoulders with the perils of country living, often with a wry sense of humor. Julie’s songs can be found on three self-released MAW records, with folders of unreleased songs waiting to be heard.
Listen to more great local music during 105 Live, Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at noon, on your local KPR station.
