The sculpture, titled “Journey”, by John Robinson, was gifted to the university in 2002 and has been displayed inside the physics department.
Now, it is set to be repositioned outside the Ogden Centre for Fundamental Physics, contributing to a public art trail on the university’s campus.
The sculpture will be mounted on concrete columns using aluminium fixings, with the ground beneath finished with pebbles.

The new location for the sculpture is just outside Durham’s Conservation Area and will require some landscaping, such as clearing overgrown grass and adding a pebble surface for better visual integration and drainage.
A brass plaque will be installed with the sculpture’s name, date, and curator,.
Planning permission was granted by Durham County Council on October 7.
