Purple has dominated in Cao Yawei’s recent creations. She has unveiled her latest Purple Planet series at the Illuminati Fine Art space in Hong Kong, displaying a thriving purple world drawn on her rich experiences in geology and art, and living in various cultures.
The exhibition, Purple Planet — Awakening, gathers installations, sculptures and ink works on paper to form a space that endlessly unfolds before those who step into Cao’s world of myth and vigor.
Through the flow and diffusion of water and pigments, she presents an energy field on paper and in other media. She views the works, no matter a painting, sculpture or mixed media, not as an independent piece but as a whole that evolves.
