RUSSELLVILLE — The Harrington Collection is on exhibit at Arkansas Tech University’s Norman Hall Art Gallery throughout the summer.
The pieces in the show were curated by Neal Harrington, Arkansas Tech University professor of art, and Tammy Harrington, University of the Ozarks professor of art, according to a news release from Arkansas Tech University.
Thirty artists are represented in the exhibit, which is open weekdays (excluding holidays) from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. at 203 W. Q St. in Russellville. Admission is free. A public reception is scheduled for 3-4 p.m. Sept. 3, the release states.
“Art has always been a part of our lives, from childhood when we drew and doodled … even on the worksheets and assignments that we were not supposed to add creative flourishes to,” wrote the Harringtons in a statement posted alongside the exhibit. “It was our comfortable space that allowed our creativity to blossom. We learned how to see the world in a visual way and how to communicate our thoughts with others. It is also the perfect way to pass the time. Art was and is always there.
“This collection of artwork that we gathered throughout the years is really a visual representation of the times in our life. We love making art, but also love to look at art from others because they make art so differently than we do. The Harrington Collection is pretty varied in media, content and style, but to us it is perfect because it is a collection of who we are, the people that have surrounded us and the moments we have experienced.”
The collection includes artwork created by Daniel Adams, Rob Andes, Stacy Beck Bates, Melissa Bollero, John Boyd, Deborah Mae Broad, Melissa Cowper-Smith, Warren Criswell, Dylan Eakin, Maria Jose Garcia, Sigrid Lorfing Goodwin, Linda Harrington, Yuji Hiratsuka, Wayne Kimball, Connor Klein, Lisa Krannichfeld, Adam Larson, Maisoon, Art Martin, Mirian Miralda, Juan de Dios Mora, Kelly Moran, Italo Sanchez, Amy Scoggins, Bradlee Shanks, Xin Tran, Wandering Wetplates photography, Michael Warrick, Art Werger and Melissa Wilkinson, the release states.
