Artists have joined forces to organise an exhibition of their work after an annual event was cancelled.
Seven artists will showcase their creations at Coal Aston Village Hall from May 23 to 25 during the bank holiday weekend when Derbyshire Open Arts would traditionally have been held.
Some of the exhibitors have won national awards and been on television programmes such as Landscape Artist of the Year. Others teach drawing at Sheffield Hallam University and the Millennium Gallery and have had solo shows in the region and more widely in the UK.
Participating artists are Bob Bernard, Caroline Fisher, Lyn Hodnett, Martin Jones, Eva Juusola, Craig Longmuir and Lynne Wilkinson.
The event offers a unique opportunity to purchase affordable, highly collectable, original art, directly from the artists. With a wide variety of subjects, styles and media on display, there will be something to suit every taste.
Throughout the weekend, some of the artists will give live demonstrations, offering a rare insight into their creative processes. There will also be an art raffle in support of the village hall and refreshments will be available.
The event is open from 10am until 4pm daily.
*Derbyshire Open Arts, which has been part of the calendar for more than 20 years, announced in November 2025 that it would be taking a fallow year in 2026 to enable its small committee of volunteers to make some changes. Leigh Wood, who chairs the organisation, posted: “We know this might come as a bit of a shock for the regular artists and makers that take part in this event, but we want to assure you we have your best interests at heart. We are excited to have some much needed time to reset, and develop this fantastic event for the future, with some new great additions and tweaks that we think are going to be amazing.” The news came a month after the opening date for applications for the 2026 event.
