“Kai the Recycled Glass Penguin” was part of the Waddle-on-Sea trail, with dozens of other colourful penguins placed around Southend and Leigh.
It was designed by Leigh artist Louise Truslow, who created the waistcoat using vibrant colours from broken crystal glass.
The sculpture will go up for auction along with the other penguins from the trail, with proceeds going to south Essex charity Havens hospices.
Ms Truslow, who is largely self-taught, said: “There are no rules, so I really can make it up as I go along with the type of work that I do.”
Her ocean-inspired glasswork for Kai is entirely from recycled materials that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.
Kai’s name, meaning “ocean”, reflects the inspiration behind the design.
This project was not just about art for Ms Truslow.
She said: “This trail gave me the chance to do the things I love, painting and glass making, and also highlight the importance of recycling.”
The Waddle-on-Sea trail attracted families, art enthusiasts, and visitors from across the country to Southend and Leigh.
It also had the purpose of raising vital funds for Havens hospices, which provides specialist care and support to families in Essex.
Ms Truslow added: “I’ve always worked with charities throughout my career, but this is one of the most interesting and worthwhile ones I’ve been involved with.
“I really hope Kai raises lots of money for the cause.”
With the trail now finished, the penguins are moving on to their next homes.
Art lovers will have the chance to own a unique piece of art while supporting a local charity.

“We’re so grateful to Louise and all the artists for their creativity.
“Every bid helps us continue providing vital care and support to local families.”
