AS PART of the yearly Edinburgh Climate Festival, a community group in the city has come together to create a sculpture made completely of recycled parts.
Meadows Community Gardens, also known as Greening our Street, are working with Edinburgh locals to build the sculpture on a weekly basis.
The group is currently meeting on Saturdays in the meadows to create the art, using parts which they would usually recycle in the community garden, including sticks and withies.
This comes as the group make their return to the climate festival, after not having been able to participate in recent years.

Posting an update on their social media page last Saturday after the first day of building, the group said: “our sculpture project began with lots of help, and we now have four panels and a crown.
“More creative work over the next few Saturdays until the Climate Festival deadline.”
Members of the community are welcome to help with the construction of the creative piece, and interested parties should attend the garden in the Meadows garden at 12:30pm this Saturday.
Speaking of their reasons to start the project, Sarah of the community group said: “Every year we are invited to take part in the climate festival, but for the last few years we’ve not been able to.”
“So, this year, we saw an opportunity to get involved by contributing a sculpture made of the bits and pieces we recycle at the garden.”

“It’s an ongoing project over the next few Saturdays and we’ve called it ‘Keep Growing’.
“As community gardeners we grow veg, flowers, fruit trees, hedges and wildflowers for all to enjoy, and to contribute to biodiversity and to Greening the City.
“We don’t know what the finished sculpture will look like, but all the bits will be re-used.”
Meadows Community Gardens was launched in 2014 as Greening Our Street and aims to create a space in the city where birds, bees, and residents can all thrive.
The Edinburgh Climate Festival is an annual free event which seeks to celebrate and inspire climate action in the city.
This year, it will take place on Saturday 28 June in the Meadows from 12pm to 7pm.
