KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Birding and bird watching is a free and approachable activity for all, and visitors to Upjohn Park on Saturday can learn more about birds firsthand during World Migratory Bird Day, an annual global educational campaign.
“This year’s World Migratory Bird Day event will offer even more opportunities for people to connect with birds and learn about the important role they play in our environment, as well as actions community members can take to support them, including helping collect data about our local environment,” said Bela Ballez, board member of the Audubon Society of Kalamazoo, in a statement.

“From the scavenger hunt and live raptor program to additional artists and community partners, we’re excited to make this year’s event our biggest and most engaging yet,” Ballez said, in a statement.
Visitors can also explore informational activity booths from over a dozen West Michigan organizations, including the Kalamazoo Nature Center, Air Zoo, Kellogg Bird Sanctuary and more.
World Migratory Bird Day overlaps with the start of Buzz in the Zoo, a local initiative that encourages Kalamazoo residents to create wildlife-friendly backyards by prioritizing native species and natural materials on their properties.
