From the outside, Keey Light Box is an inconspicuous building newly rising in the city of Jiangmen in Guangdong province, its exposed concrete walls giving it a composed demeanor. However, upon entering the recently opened X Gallery inside, one is ushered into a world where artworks and handicrafts sparkle with creativity.
From the Past, For the Future, the space’s inaugural show, engages the audience with a dialogue on the interactions between cultural heritage and contemporary art, Eastern aesthetics and international expression.
The centerpiece is a scroll landscape, made with stone inlay work, re-creating the scenes of the classical painting Qingming Shanghe Tu (Along the River During the Qingming Festival), a collaboration of 16 inheritors of the stone embellishment craft. Also on show until Aug 7 are works by contemporary artists from home and abroad.
