A Scottish gallery showing off contemporary works has won a prestigious international arts award.

In a ceremony held in London, Morningside Gallery was announced as the winner of the Curatorial Excellence Award at the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea.

The Scottish location competed against 114 other spots around the globe, which were all judged by historian, comedian, and presenter Verity Babbs, director of Aqua Art Miami, Cordelia de Freitas and Fair director Hugo Barclay.

Established in 2003, Morningside Gallery in Edinburgh specialises in contemporary Scottish art, with a focus on painting and ceramics.

It says it “continues to offer art buyers quality and variety within a welcoming gallery space” and “works hard to provide an excellent and professional service at all levels for artists and clients”.

The gallery‘s exhibition calendar is full to the brim with inspiring and varied solo and mixed art exhibitions and regular meet-the-artist events.

This was the location’s first time exhibiting at the London event, where they showcased a diverse selection of artworks, from Scottish artist Hedi Munro’s gorgeous gold leaf paintings to dramatic, atmospheric paintings by Stephen Mangan and more.

Discussing the award, UK Fair director Barclay said: “Morningside Gallery stood out with a beautifully curated stand that is balanced and cohesive, providing a valuable experience for visitors.”
