The third edition of the popular Bottle Alley Art Market, or BAAM as locals call it, saw Bottle Alley transformed into a 500-metre long gallery space.
Seventy-five visual artists turned the iconic alley into a thriving hub of creativity and inspiration, displaying a wide range of artwork.
Bottle Alley, designed by Hastings Borough architect Sidney Little in the 1930s, provided a unique setting for the event.
The market is not only a celebration of art but also pays homage to the rich heritage of the area.
Cinque Ports Radio presenter and academic researcher Andre Palfrey Martin attended the event to discuss the influence of Sidney Little and his pivotal role in revitalising the promenade after his appointment in 1926.
The artists showcased included a 12-year-old, a Ukrainian artist represented by his family, and even caught the attention of comedian Harry Hill.
Neil Hetherington from ZEROH, an artist and co-founder of the event, said: “BAAM is as much a celebration of heritage and place as it is art, as without this unique location the event would not exist.
“Mr Little created spaces that are dynamic and ground-breaking for the public to enjoy, designed with the coastal resort in mind.
“His vision was not always shared but his genius has stood the test of time.”
The event also hosted performances from Jude Montague, Caroline Gregory, and Cate Brick, with live music from Simon and the Pope.
There were also sets from DJs James Endeacott, Tom Flowstate, Mik Whitnall and DJ Chabala.
Artists Tula Parker and Xinchu Zhang returned to create live pencil and ink portraits of visitors, a nod to the traditional seaside portrait.
The event was not only a feast for art enthusiasts but also a learning platform, with Andre Palfrey Martin explaining the importance of the architect Sidney Little and how he contributed to the regeneration of the promenade.
Following the Bank Holiday weekend, BAAM is set to launch their ‘My Home is Where Your Art is’ project, allowing art buyers to display their purchases and share their experiences of BAAM25.
The Bottle Alley Art Market is a testament to the thriving art scene in Hastings and St Leonards, bringing together artists, residents and visitors in a celebration of creativity and culture.
