She is said to be reluctant about the idea, but Queen Camilla is to be immortalised in bronze next year for her first official Royal sculpture.
‘I don’t think she’s mad about having it done,’ artist Lady Petchey revealed, ‘but she has agreed as it will be kept at the Royal Osteoporosis Society, which I think is lovely.’
The Queen is president of the charity, which will display the finished work at their headquarters in Bath, with a copy going to Clarence House.
Lady Petchey, known professionally as Frances Segelman, previously sculpted the late Queen and Prince Philip, as well as the King when he was Prince of Wales – and is now finishing off a new bust of him with the correct insignia and medals as monarch.
It was while she was working at Clarence House that Ms Segelman, 75, met Camilla. ‘We had a connection,’ the sculptor told me. ‘I really like her so much, she’s such a lovely woman – she’s not at all vain.

‘Camilla also unveiled a bust that I did of the late Queen for Barnardo’s in East London, and she loved it. She actually said to me “this is the best bust of Her Majesty The Queen I’ve seen”.’
Ms Segelman said her Camilla bust will be ‘absolute perfection, I would think my best ever work’.
She added that the Royal Family ‘know I do lovely representations of them and they are beautiful sculptures. With portraits it’s very different – you can go a bit wild. But with sculpture it’s got to really look like the person. To get the exact look of somebody in a sculpture, and the feel of them behind it, it’s quite an art to do that and I think I can manage that.’
Ms Segelman recently sold an eight-inch sculpture of Charles for £30,000 via online auctioneers House of Assets.
