Dividing up the pie, growing the pie… People on stage at music-industry conferences LOVE talking about the pie. Now a startup is putting it front and centre for its brand.
MyPie describes itself as an “automated donations app for music fans”. They sign up and connect their Spotify accounts, then set a ‘donations pie’ amount which will be divided among the artists they listen to.
Well, it will if those artists or their labels have signed up. MyPie says that for artists who have not, it will hold their earnings for up to a year before returning them to the fans.
Fans can set their pies as little as $3 or as high as $200 a month, with MyPie taking a 5% service fee, as well as a $2 monthly fee for each artist’s account.
The startup plans to expand to support other DSPs including Apple Music and YouTube Music in the future.
