ARTISTS at the Edinburgh Fringe have been coming together over the festival on a daily basis to show their solidarity with Palestine.
The community has been meeting up daily in the Meadows to clap and bang pots and pans.
By congregating, the performers are hoping to highlight what is happening in Palestine and allow people a space to speak.
Comedians including Frankie Boyle, Diona Doherty, The Guilty Feminist, Fern Brady, Alexandra Haddow and Liam Withnail have been seen expressing their support for the movement on its social media page.
Online, Fringe Artists for Palestine said: “We are a collective of Edinburgh Fringe performers who wish to show solidarity with the Palestinian people throughout the Fringe.
“We meet for an hour every day of the festival to clap and bang pots and pans to draw attention to what is happening and offer a platform for people to share and speak if they wish”.
The group has said that anyone is welcome, not just performers.
Fringe Artists for Palestine added: “This is a peaceful, mindful, positive space for any and all folk who wish to stand in support of our Palestinian friends.”
After the first meeting last Wednesday, the group said: “Really stirring turnout for the first Fringe Artists For Palestine.
“A special hour of clattering, chattering, and sharing shows and ideas that we can unite behind over the course of the next few weeks.
“We hope this can be a daily beacon amid the chaos of the Fringe and the horror of the news.”
Following the second gathering, the group provided more details, saying: “This is an open space — if you’d like to speak, share an event, or say something from the heart, come and find me.
“If you’d prefer me to speak on your behalf, I’m happy to.
“There’s no pressure to stay the full hour or to attend every day. Pop by for 15 minutes or more — your presence matters.
“We are looking for volunteers to lead meetings.
“All that means is reading this opening message, facilitating speakers and being here first.
“At half past, I’ll repeat this message.
“And at the end of the hour, we’ll take a group photo — please share it on Instagram and tag Fringe Artists for Palestine.
“Tell people how good it felt to be here.
“Thank you for your solidarity.”
The group meets at the point where Meadow Walk meets the Meadows, on Monday and Tuesday at 6pm, Wednesday and Thursday at 3pm and Friday and Saturday at 12pm, with Sunday reserved for “field trips”.
