Located at Banca March Gardens on Madrid’s Calle Castelló, the exhibition will run until 30 October 2026 on Thursdays (7:00 – 11:00 pm), Fridays (12:00 – 7:00 pm) and Saturdays (12:00 – 7:00 pm). In Madrid’s Salamanca district, the Banca March gardens are an island of greenery, already studded with sculptures by contemporary artists such as Cristina Iglesias.
Centred on the use of traditional materials and conceived in collaboration with international art firm Vande, the exhibition will bring together seven monumental sculptures made from plaster, bronze, and aluminium, combined with industrial and natural elements like iron rods and hemp. Highlights include the vast Large Walking Figure I (Leeds), 2013, almost five metres tall, and the recent Janus-Mirror-Figure, 2025. The main body of the latter work is carved from red cedar with a chainsaw, following lines of coloured pastel sketched directly onto the wood.
Houseago’s work highlights the connection between present and past, art and history, drawing on ancient and classical sculpture, as well as the work of 20th-century artists such as Auguste Rodin and Pablo Picasso. Contemporary popular culture also features strongly in his work, with references ranging from David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust to George Lucas’s Darth Vader.
